XII PortoCartoon - "Aviões e máquinas voadoras"

TEMA PRINCIPAL MAIN SUBJECT
AVIÕES E MÁQUINASVOADORAS
AIRPLANES AND FLYING MACHINES
REGULAMENTO
General Rules and Regulations
Ninguém é indiferente a ela. The theme is intended to evoke the date of the first aircraft experience, and its impact on today aviation. History is full of dramatic and hilarious moments with airplanes and flying machines. The politics is also played in the air, when dropping bombs and gases that destroy the planet. Supersonic aircraft and nut shells; delta wings and rusty machines, storms and dramas, controls and leaks; business and deviations; air attacks and flights of solidarity, fun and plunder, fears and prayers, love and humour. There is a bit of everything in aviation. No one can be indifferent to it. 300 years ago, Bartolomeu de Gusmão invented an airship, commonly known as “passarola.” As per the History, this was the first “tool to walk through the air” and was presented in Lisbon in August 1709, by the inventor.Bartolomeu de Gusmão, was born in Santos, S. Paulo (Brazil), and protected by the Portuguese royal house, was a member of the “Companhia de Jesus” and professor of mathematics at the University of Coimbra and has several inventions. Between 1709 and today, there are 300 years of stories that the pencil of the cartoonists can not turn away from. The subject is too fertile. In addition to participating with cartoons on the main theme, the cartoonists can also send works for the Free Category, as per the previous editions.Os artistas que não quiserem concorrer aos prémios podem enviar os seus trabalhos para a secção EXTRA-CONCURSO, indicando-o expressamente. The artists who do not wish to compete can send their works to the EXTRA-COMPETITION section informing of this decision. Works must be originals and any kind of graphical technique will be accepted, including digital artwork if the prints are SIGNED and if they are PRINT NUMBER ONE; can also be presented sculptures pieces of humour, in any kind of material.Os trabalhos podem ter, no máximo, as seguintes medidas: -em papel, 42 x 30 cm (DIN A3) -peças escultóricas, 42 x 30 x 30 cmThe works can have at the maximum the following measures: -in paper, 42 x 30 cm (DIN A3); -sculpture pieces, 42 x 30 x 30 cmAs obras devem apresentar no verso as seguintes informações: Nome do autor e endereços; título, secção temática a que se destinam, ano e devem ser acompanhadas por CV do autor (participação em exposições, prémios, publicações...).The works should present on the reverse the following information: author´s name and address, title, theme section and year. Just explain it simply – the financial crisis and poverty

In the autumn of 2008, many people were caught off guard when terms such as “financial crisis” and “banking crisis” began making the news. For too long, the proponents of a free market economy have interpreted globalization as solely an economic matter, and have advocated unfettered markets - neoliberalism. Suddenly, the contradictions within this viewpoint became more noticable. The recent crisis appears to have had its origins in the uncontrolled growth of financial markets. The financial crisis has in turn begun to aggravate the crisis of economies already marked by stagnation and rising unemployment. And the real losers of this financial and economic crisis will obviously be the poor and the poorest. But how are these economic forces interrelated? Why do society’s poorest bear the brunt of the crisis, when in fact the money has been gambled away in the boardrooms of major corporations? We are looking for critical and satirical observations/commentaries which confront the causes and effects of the financial crisis, and the related contradictions and conflicts, on both a small and large scale.Explain it simply — through means of cartoons and caricatures.

4th International Don Quichotte Cartoon Contest “Integration / Assimilation”

The word „Integration“ in dictionary means coalescence, cohesion and adaptation. „Assimilation“ contains the meanings of alteration, resembling each other or adjusting oneself. These conseptions which seem as if they are different from each other build the parts of a complement especially in migration countries. Also one of them is the entity reason of the other one.
Nowadays neither the immigrants can accommodate to the society where they live nor they can live their own ethnic cultures freely. At the process of accommadition to the society of immigrants where live it can be possible that they are assimilated as much they diverge from their own culture also that they become estranged. But the real meaning of „integration“ is to be able to live in a country without losing self-identity. Whatever the ethnic origin of the person, the society accord the right of protection of his ethnic culture and language. Otherwise there is an „assimilation“ in other words „obligatory alteration“.In social life „ideal person“ is who embrace the other cultures and folks. Our goal is that the societies do not confuse „adaptation“ and „alteration“ conceptions and that they provide that people maintain their cultures freely. The aim of our cartoon contest is to actualize this synthesis which can not actualize in real terms- through the cartoon art and to convey the required messages to the immigrant countries.
The Rules of Competition:
1) The participation in contest is possible only by Internet.
2) At most three cartoons can be sent.
3) The participating work may have been published neither with another competition presented nor on any way. With an offence, the deprivation of the achieved prices is the result.
4) The designs are to be drawn in A3-Size to deliver in 300 dpi dissolution and in JPEG format. They know both and black-and-white, and to be colored, the coloured representation is exactly the same as the colortechnical treatment of the work is incumbent on not a containment.
5) The sent cartoons are issued first on the web pages of the “Don Quichotte” under the column “Today”. Thus the work those is excluded the regulation to contradict, promptly from the competition. Thus in the past the pretty often experienced unauthorized counterfeit, of a work is avoided.
6) Deadline for the participation to the contest: 1 December 2009
7) The jury formed from the cartoonists of the different countries will evaluate the sent cartoons in December. The results will be announced on 15 January.
